Due to CV entry into the Salt Pans Ultra 2020 is limited to Botswana based runners unless and until borders open. If borders do open before the race date we will decide at that point if non Botswana resident runners can partake and will implement protocols accordingly.
Botswana based runners must have submitted their completed entry and have paid in full by Friday 7 August (‘fully registered”) to be accepted as a runner for the event. The event needs a minimum of 35 runners to take place – for clarity if this number is not achieved by 7 August 2020 the event will not take place.
Our entries are closed. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic we won’t be able to organize the the Salt Pans Ultra Marathon 2020.
We will open our race entries for next year by beginning of January 2021
Please subscribe to our Newsletter in order to get the latest updates and information regarding our event.
Note: We currently do not offer food as part of the entry. We are looking for a sponsor to be able to include this. The cost of food is P400 per person from supper on 1st October until breakfast on the 4th October.
To organise feeding centrally without a sponsor we need 35 runners minimum to opt for the feeding option at P400/pp.
We don’t provide tents. Please bring your own tent and mattresses. Contact us if you want to rent camping equipment.
If you want to bring someone with you, please contact us.
Accommodation packages are for friends/family who want to stay for the duration of the event in our base camp on Kukonje Island. Choose whether you want us to provide you with a tent and mattress or if you choose to bring your own tent and mattress and just rent the campsite. Kids under 6 are for free. Note – we don’t recommend bringing children.
You can rent a SPOT satellite tracking device. It enables live tracking and SOS/Help functionality for that extra piece of mind.
We don’t offer transport.

We have been following CV-19 developments very closely and gauging how this could affect the presentation of the 2021 Salt Pans Ultra. As you may appreciate organising an event of this magnitude takes the better part of a year, CV-19 has shown us that the one thing you can’t do with any confidence is plan with the confidence of committing to an event presentation date.
As as a team we are hugely passionate about what we do. We want to put on the best event we can and ensure it remains a world class experience near the top of everyone’s bucket list. We give hugely of ourselves in both time, emotional commitment, and financial risk in the delivery of this event. Having postponed 2020 in the hope of presenting the Salt Pans Ultra in 2021 we find our current reality, and that for the foreseeable future, uncertain in terms of the spread of the disease, the movement of people and the rollout of vaccines. Added to this is the reduction in the availability of sponsorship and support with many businesses struggling and some even having to close their doors permanently.
All this to say that sadly we have decided to not host the Salt Pans Ultra in its full format in 2021. We are evaluating the option of presenting the 50km race and will communicate this in the next 2 – 3 months. If we do present the 50km it will be a very much more self sufficient event with the appropriate support to ensure everyone can safely finish.
We trust that you appreciate the uncertain times we find ourselves in and how this has impacted our industry in an unprecedented manner, with many events having to be postponed until the pandemic is brought under control.
The Salt Pans Ultra Team.
